The Valley of Snakes

Last week it was the rise of Islam and ancient Baghdad. We read Sinbad in the Valley of the Snakes. This is our classroom transformed into the Valley of Snakes. Pretty cool and easy, too. Just cut a circle of construction paper, color with patterns and cut into spirals. Hang from the ceiling and you've got a snake fest.

those are pretty cool snakes! I have to tell you that I got the CD version of the "story of the world" book from the library this week. We started disc one on the way home. The girls were so enthralled that they wanted it on inside, too. We listened through Egypt, Abraham and Joseph. A good hour + of just audio!! I was impressed by the retelling of the stories, but disappointed that they use BCE rather than BC. Thanks for the tip. We've been enjoying them so much. I love remembering what I studied in college, too - I love all that stuff!

Wende sent me to your site. You have a great blog. I looked long and hard, but couldn't find any pictures of you. Your home school looks like so much funl! We're loving Story of the World as well. We had a fun party with Egyptian food and wrapping the mom's up like mummies. Home schooling was one of our best ideas. We do enjoy Twilight, but I have a tween girl. We can still be friends. ;)
our public blogs are: educationvalidation.blogspot.com which Jennie and I inconsistently share & imdownwithdowns.blogspot.com which Laura and I post on most
I'll look into the Classically Trained Child at your recommendation. Right now I fall between Charolotte Mason and Thomas Jefferson Leadership Education

It's me, Emily (Lund) Orton. I'm back. I just got The Well-Trained Mind from the library. It's great! It fits right into our blend of classical approaches and matches up history/science in a much better way. I keep checking your blog and sending others as well. It's fun to see how much we have in common. I'm a whole-grainer as well. I love Jane Brody's Good Food Book; Living the high-carbohydrate way. I'm so glad we don't have any wheat allergies!
Keep on keepin' on.
